Step 1: Make Sure Your SSH Access Is Enabled

Instead of a password, you use a pair of special cryptographic keys. One is public (stored on the server), and one is private (stored only on your computer). This method is even safer because keys can’t be guessed or cracked like passwords can.

1. Download PuTTYgen (it comes with PuTTY)
2. Click “Generate” and move your mouse around a bit (yes, really!) to create unique keys
3. Save your private key as a .ppk file on your computer
4. Copy the public key and paste it into your server
5. Tell PuTTY where your private key is located
6. Next time you log in, just click “Open” and you’re connected—no password needed!
